Zyrtec Deal Idea

I thought  I'd share my Zyrtec deal scenario with you.  This is what I will buy tomorrow at Rite Aid.

I will buy 4 bottles of Zyrtec (30 ct) $18.99 each
I will use four $4 off coupons from tomorrow's paper
I will use this $5/25 Rite Aid store coupon (expires 2/28, but they put this coupons out almost every month)

Total $54.96 plus tax

I will submit for the $25 Rite Aid rebate (#24) here.  There is a Zyrtec rewards program that will pay $10 of every $50 purchased, but that deal ends today and I want to wait for the coupons from tomorrows paper.

Final cost of $29.96 plus tax for an 8 month supply of Zyrtec!! We only use 1/2 pill per day, but even if you take an entire pill per day your cost is still only $7.50 per month!! ◦

Super Doubles at Harris Teeter

I've been hearing rumors for days, but it is official.  Several bloggers on AFC have received their Harris Teeter sale paper and are confirming that the rumor is true.  Harrris Teeter will be doing super doubles from 2/17 at 7am until 2/23.  During super doubles they will double coupons up to and including 1.98. Like last time, they limit you to 20 coupons per day and they will not double any coupons that specifically say "do not double."

Last time they did super doubles I shopped really early and was able to get everything I wanted.  I went to a 24 hour store at 6:15 and loaded up my cart.  I checked out at 7:00 and was able to get back home before the crowd arrived.  It was great!  Check out my post here to read about my savings.

Keep in mind, I have not personally looked at the sale paper. I will call the Nashville store tomorrow to get official confirmation, but in the mean time, get your coupons clipped! ◦

I'm not sure how long this promotion is valid, but Walmart, Publix, and Rite Aid are currently selling the Sunday paper for $1.19.  Don't forget, Dollar Tree always sells them for $1, but they do not receive a large quantity and normally sell out early.  Kroger marks the Sunday paper down to $1 beginning on Monday. ◦

Retail Therapy

We've received quite a bit of snow lately, and I've been cooped up in the house for too many days in a row.  Today I had a few errands to run, and decided to get in a little retail therapy.

Total Spent $15.95
Total Saved $32.03

My first stop was at Publix.

This week many Lysol products are $1.35 each, and with the .50 coupons from the 2/7 paper the final cost is only .35 cents each.  The big box of Lipton tea was $1.66 and I used a .50 cent coupon that doubled so the final price was only .66 cents.  I also got a small box of Lipton tea for .09 cents after coupon.  The Birds Eys Steam Fresh were free (.89 cents each and I had .50 cent coupons).  The fruit snacks were .86 cents a box (1.36 and I had .50/2 coupons).

At the Publix Pharmacy I used my new FamilyWize discount card and saved $5.03, or 33%, on a prescription medicine.

My second stop was Walgreens.

I used $8 in RR that I had plus two $1.50 Triaminic coupons.  My total out of pocket was $1.87, and I received a $5 RR.  I also bought a candy bar, but well, it didn't make it home for the picture :)

My third stop was Target.

Total Spent: $22.34
Total Saved: $29.09
Extra: I received a $5 gift card

I received the $5 gift card for purchasing 2 Venus Razors.  Also, I had coupons for the razors and coupons for free body wash with the purchase of the razors.  The bandaids and first aid kits were free with coupon.

Target Trip #2

Total Spent: $1.81 (I used gift card from transaction #1)
Total Saved: $16.90
Extra: I received another $5 gift card

Read my posts from earlier this week to see the specifics of how to get these deals.  Who says retail therapy has to cost a fortune ;)

Restaurant.com

Have you heard of http://www.restaurant.com//? The site allows you to purchase $25 gift certificates for $10, and $10 gift certificates for $4 to be used at participating restaurants. They are currently offering an 80% discount (in addition to the regular discount price) on certificates. Just use discount code HEART at checkout and you can get a $25 gift certificate for $2!!!!!  Need more of a reason to purchase a certificate?  For a limited time they are offering a $15 FTD reward with every purchase! This promotion code is only valid until 2/14, so don't wait!

I've had a few people email me to ask exactly how this works. It is best to think of the certificate as a coupon because a minimum purchase is required. It can vary by restaurant, but generally you can use a $25 certificate on a $35 purchase, which is a significant savings. Click here for FAQs.

**Disclaimer: You should call the restaurant ahead of time to make sure they accept the certificates before purchasing. ◦

Plastic Jungle is a site that will buy your unwanted store and restaurant gift cards.  You will get less than face value of course, but if you aren't going to use the card it is better than letting it go to waste.  I've never sold cards, but according to the site they pay as much as 85% of the value.  You can also buy gift cards from the site for a savings of up to 30%.  Check it out here. ◦

Ways to Save on Medication

With our new insurance policy, we do not have prescription coverage.  Let me tell you, it stinks!  However, I have realized that there are ways to reduce the out of pocket expense.  This will also be helpful to those of you with a Health Reimbursement Account because the less you spend on medicines, the more you have left in your account for doctor visits.

If you have any tips other than those listed below, please email them to me.  I would love to hear your suggestions!

  • Before you need them, check around at local pharmacies for the price of medicines you take.  For example, I get a sinus infection at least once a year and I always take a z-pack.  I checked with a local pharmacy chain and their cash price was $44.95.  I also checked with McCormicks pharmacy in White House, and their cash price was only $19.95!  That is a big difference!  You can guess where I went when I needed the medication.
  • Keep a list in your phone or in your car of the $4 generics offered at Walmart (or other pharmacies).  Take the list to the doctor with you and ask if one of these medicines will work for you.  As an example, a doctor recently told my husband to take Prilosec.  Generic Prilosec is about $15 for a months supply.  However, generic Zantac is only $4 for a months supply at Walmart.  Had we known that up front we could have asked for Zantac instead.  The list of discounted medications available at Walmart is here.
  • Keep a list in your phone or in your car of the free antibiotics offered at Publix.  Take this list to the doctor with you and see if they might work for you.  The list is here.
  • Keep a supply of over the counter medicines.  As you find them on sale buy them even if you don't need them, because chances are, you will need them eventually.  I was a Kroger last week and they had 8oz bottles of generic Robittussin for $1.42!  I bought a couple bottles because I know we will need them eventually.  Just be sure to check the expiration date and make sure to get one with a far off expiration date.
  • The State of Tennessee offers a program called Cover RX for individuals without prescription coverage.  Income limitations apply.  For a family of four you must earn less than $53,000.  The income eligibility chart is here.  Additional information on the program is available here.
  • The United Way offers a free drug discount card for individuals and families without prescription coverage.  You can save 30% or more at participating pharmacies.  There are no income limitations.  You can print your card here.

Kroger Deals

I don't have a picture to show you this week, but I saved 46% at Kroger today.  The percentage would have been much higher, but I needed to restock my freezer and I decided to make BBQ for dinner and not only did I make a double batch so I could freeze 1/2, but my favorite BBQ sauce was not on sale and I was completely out of the brand I wanted.  I paid $3 for a bottle of BBQ sauce!  Oh well... it is my favoite.

Below are a few of my favorite deals.  Remember, the Mega Event is still in effect this week.  Click here for a full list of participating items.  You can also view my deals from last week here and here.

  • Quaker Quakes .04 cents!  (.79 cents and I had a .75 cent coupon from a recent Kroger mailing)
  • 3 bottles of Franks Hot Sauce .19 cents each ! (1.19 and I have .50 cent coupons that doubled)
  • Free chapstick! It is on sale for $1 and I had a $1 Publix coupon from their recent magazine
  • Tyson Entree $1.99!  It is on sale for $3.99 and I had a $2 Publix coupon from their recent magazine
  • Soft Soap.18 cents!  It is on sale for .88 cents and there was a .35 cent coupon in the Sunday paper that doubles.
  • 2 Knorr Pasta Sides .23 cents each! They are on sale for $1 and I had a .50 manufactures coupon that doubled and a Publix coupon for .55 cents.
  • Green Giant Steamers .50 cents!  On sale for $1.50 and I used .50 cent printable coupon from my coupon printer (right sidebar) that doubled.
  • Chex Mix .50 cents!  It is on sale for $1.50 and I used a .50 cent printable coupon from my coupon printer (right sidebar) that doubled.
Some of the Publix coupons I mentioned above were from this Sunday's paper.  Others were from the Publix magazine.  You can sign up for the free magazine here. ◦
