It is not too early to start thinking about taxes. Below are two options for free tax preparation this year.
1. If you had a household income of $49,000 or less in 2010, you may qualify for free tax preparation at a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. Having your taxes prepared by an IRS certified volunteer ensures that you claim all of your eligible tax credits and receive a quick refund in as little as 7-10 days with free e-file and direct deposit. To find the nearest free tax preparation site and to learn what to bring with you when you go, please dial 2-1-1, or click here for details. Sites are available throughout Middle Tennessee.
2. The United Way of Metropolitan Nashville is offering free online, do-it-yourself tax preparation. If you feel comfortable navigating the internet and had a household income of $57,000 or less in 2010, then you can prepare and file your taxes online for free. Just go to: http://www.mymoneynashville.org/ and click on the “File Online Today” link.
